Summary
Designing online user interfaces since 1993, a fan of both art and science, I use common elements of technology as tools to simplify and enrich human-computer and human-human interaction. UED Standards (Q4 2008 - Q3 2009) – Lead the creation, documentation, evangelization, and propagation of global design patterns, delivering 41 design patterns in nine months, beating executive goals 4 months ahead of schedule. Established & maintained terminology, tracking, and scheduling. Gave presentations to execs and design staff. Worked very closely with front-end development leads to enable a precise 1:1 mapping between design patterns and coded components. Provided sole design support to worldwide implementation teams refactoring over 1,000 legacy pages to use new standard layouts & components.
Global Marketplaces (Q3 2008) – Worked closely with product marketing managers in the development of business requirements into design concepts and page flows, and with Technical PMs, Visual Designers, & Content Managers in executing final UED specs.
Global Risk & Ops (Q4 2006 - Q2 2008) – Led designers in the San Jose & Chennai offices on 3 multi-release initiatives and trained two local staff designers. Led a redesign of core PayPal Resolution Center pages, driving down the #1 & #3 top inbound calls to customer support by 44.7% in the first month after launch.

Art directed a complete redesign of the Edusoft product and led the first phase of implementation. Worked closely with the Product Management team in honing feature requirements to focus on user needs. Developed UI specs and HTML mockups. Provided consultation to engineering regarding difficult front-end implementation issues. Directly managed one Sr. UI Designer.

Developed a complete set of documented UI standards and templates and with these, led a complete rewrite of more than 300 user-facing screens. Art directed graphic designers in the creation of a new library of product icons and buttons. Created a central repository of HTML-based mockups and components. Counseled Professional Services on browser bugs and advanced UI customization via CSS & DHTML.

Integrated designs into ASP pages, including my own homepage and results page redesigns. Worked in R&D to develop an ultralight version of the Ask.com homepage with less than 5k HTML (down from nearly 20k) and maximally optimized graphics without significantly impacting the visual design. Developed the company's first "limited deployment" process to support live beta & A/B testing.

Principal designer for the Ask.com homepage and search results page redesign in 2000, redesigned the Shopping channel, and designed the UI for the public AnswerPoint community forum. Worked on-site at Silicon Graphics, Inc., creating a e-commerce solution for the NT Visual Workstation product release. Built pages ranging from elementary HTML “shells” to a bleeding-edge DHTML widget. Worked extensively with client-side JavaScript. Integrated app server tags into JHTML pages, resolving app logic issues. Debugged inline Java code. Tested & debugged pages for cross-platform compatibility. Participated in the training of two new Site Builders. Counseled the visual design team on efficient page layout for the Web.
